Welcome to my own little corner of the internet

I am always searching for the meaning of life and how it applies to me. I am on a constant spiritual journey. I can get lost in my head a lot. Now you can too. Welcome to my Tumblr page!

My brother makes me laugh

My little brother is home sick from school for the third day.  He is bored at this point and has been cracking me up today via text message.  He has been making me laugh his whole life, sometimes being unintentionally funny.  The following are my two favorite Little Baker stories to date.

Here is the background information needed: My aunt owns a cottage in The Thousand Islands where we go every summer.  There are a lot of chipmunks there but when Mark was little he thought they were all the same one and he loved him.  He named the chipmunk Chippy and they were best friends. (There is also a giant hill at the cottage that he used to climb up and down singing “Hi Ho” from Snow White, but that is another story…)

The story: The summer between my junior and senior years of college I was a camp counselor in Connecticut.  Towards the end of the summer my parents and Mark came down to visit me.  Mark was 5.  We were out driving and much to our surprise we saw a giant bear on the side of the road eating out of someone’s garbage cans.  My dad stopped the car so we could check it out.  The bear stopped eating, looked at us for several seconds and then went back to eating.  We thought it was cool and then drove away.  A few minutes later Mark said, “I know why that bear wasn’t afraid of us.” We asked why and he responded with, “I bet that bear is friends with my best friend Chippy.  He probably told the bear that I am a good animal treater so he knew not to be afraid.”

How cute is that???

Favorite story number two: Mark and I were driving in my car a few days after Valentine’s Day the year that he was 7.  It was the first year that he had any real awareness of Valentine’s Day which I am sure sparked the following conversation:

Mark: Heather? If you had to get married today, who would you marry?

Me: Hmmm…I not really sure to be honest.

Mark (Pondering): Oh…

Me: Do you know who you would marry?

Mark: Yes.  I would marry you.

Me: Well that is really sweet Mark, but brothers and sisters don’t marry each other.

Mark: They don’t?

Me: Nope.

Mark (After thinking this over for a couple of seconds and then saying quite matter-of-factly): Well, I’m marrying ya!
